Search engine optimization (SEO) is a hot topic these days, with many bewildered online businesses struggling to learn the tools for connecting with their markets. If this describes you, a trip to an energetic, content-filled conference could be just the thing you need. Promising to present the latest developments of the SEO field and connect you with leading experts, these conferences will introduce you to the tools for increasing your visibility, developing a web presence, and standing out from your competitors.
PubCon Las Vegas 2010: With a lineup of speakers including Malcolm Gladwell and Guy Kawasaki, this conference is poised to deliver on its promise to be the most important gathering of search and social media innovators ever assembled. You can personalize your conference experience by selecting from eight tracks of topic-specific sessions, lead by leading technology innovators. Downtime is unlikely, but in the case you find a few spare minutes, you’ll be in easy proximity to all the entertainment of Las Vegas.
Search Marketing Expo: This conference is hosted in numerous international cities through 2011, so you can choose a location near you or turn your attendance into adventure travel. All sessions promise to be action-packed with sessions and networking opportunities, and filled with the nitty-gritty information most relevant to wherever you are in the business development process.
DMA:2010: This conference focuses on return on investment; teaching new strategies to optimize your marketing budget, target the markets you’re interested in, increase the visibility of your website, and measure your success. Choose from nine conference tracks to optimize your own investments of time.
SES Conference and Expo: Choose from San Francisco, Hong Kong, Chicago and more for this popular event. With a special focus on basic and introductory sessions, this approachable conference is relevant for those just starting out in online marketing. More advanced practitioners won’t be disappointed…there are plenty of workshops on highly specified topics as well.
SEO MOZ: Seattle has always been an innovation hub, and this conference does the hosting city justice. There are no sponsors or advertizing. The focus of this conference is purely on the applicable lessons taught by leading experts, in a small community of just 310 attendees. Register early, since this conference is widely recognized as an incredible value for the price.
E-tail 2010: This conference is designed specifically for online retailers. Speakers, 90% of whom are successful online retailers themselves, are required to recap their presentations with three take-away points, so the lessons are clear and easy to recall. With generous opportunities for informal networking, participants are set up to learn from each other as well as the presenters.
High Rankings: If large conferences feel more like three-ring circuses to you, these small, half-day workshops might interest you instead. Taught by experts and focused on your exact needs, these workshops are tailored to your specific questions, interests, and business model.
Ad:Tech: These international expositions focus on empowering attendees with the skills and tools to create competitive marketing. They attract a diverse crowd of technology and marketing professionals, interested in networking as much as staying abreast of the most recent developments of their field.
WBR: Worldwide Business Research hosts topic-specific conferences for specific niches within the online retail industry, from luxury goods to mobile shopping. These conferences deal with SEO and other germane subjects, helping online retailers to connect with their markets and continuously improve.
Affiliate Summit: This three-day conference is focused on the unique needs of affiliate marketers, and the most relevant tools for developing a strong presence online. Having grown significantly since its inception six years ago, the Affiliate Summit is quickly developing a reputation as the leading networking and educational event for professionals in this field.

Thanks for the summary Laurah. Unfortunately, all of these conferences are too far away for me to attend.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure that these conferences will motivate and teach you some new tricks, but I really believe that everything you want to know about SEO can be found for free on the web. You just need to know where to look and how to filter out the noise.

Thanks for the information on the SEO conference, the year is really loaded with one conference and the other. I am thing of attending Search Marketing Expo, if they have any location that is very close to my country.
I’ve been to SMX’s and AdTech’s in Australia. There’s an awful lot of good choices in the States like Affiliate Summit and SEOmoz’s conf. I’d say pick the conferences to go to where you’ll learn new things otherwise you’ll be listening to stuff that you already know. Also, I find that conf’s like Ad:Tech are geared for high-up marketing directors talking ‘strategy’. Instead, what you want to hear is in-the-trenches SEO stuff.
Yeah that was a wonderful event isn’t it Heeren???
Gotcha atlast!

What about description and page title, how long should those be and how similar to the home page? Is there anything else that can be done for SEO optimization?
I plan to attend pubcon and ses chicago. Anyone else going to those?
I like your blog, this is an nice blog. Thanks for the information on the SEO conference, the year is really loaded with one conference and the other. Thanks again….
This is a great list Laurah! The SEOMoz looks like a great opportunity in such a small and intimate setting. And the best part, Seattle is right in my backyard. The speakers are highly and well respected. So this one looks like the best opportunity out of the lot and I may plan on attending. Thanks again for providing such a great list of networking and continuing education opportunities.

Wow Donna, that was a really good post. Conferences have been one of my biggest concerns since being thrown into the SEO industry nearly a year ago. I have still yet to make it to one because of the sheer cost alone.

Conferences aimed towards effective SEO can be really beneficial to those who would want to learn more about SEO. It also opens up opportunities to meet new people and share with them your ideas and goals. I would like to go to a SEO conference even just once but sadly there isn’t any here at my place, but if ever there will be one near here and I have the time and money, I would attend it. Thank you for the information.

Wow I never knew there were so many SEO conferences, this gives everyone a chance to go to one even if they miss one or are too far away from one. There so many to choose from. I should go to one one time, you will probably learn so much from them and meet so many people.
Great post Laurah, that’s quite a great summary of conferences. Hoping to make it to some of them sometime.

Hi Laurah, great job compiling the conferences around the world, I’ve actually been to a seminar once in my life as far as online marketing is concerned, but never been to one that was solely dedicated to SEO, but I do want to and hope to go to one in the future!
Till then,

I would love to go to even one of these conferences. I watch a lot of revision 3 shows and that is about as close as I have gotten to a conference.

PubCon and SEOmoz are two that I will hopefully be attending soon. They truly pool together some of the great minds of SEO and internet marketing. Now if only Matt Cutts ran his own conference on the ins and outs of Google SEO…then we’d be set

Yeah, most of these conferences are held in the US. How I wish there will be conferences like this in other countries, like for example in India or Malaysia.
I think the content and the talks are obviously very important There’s nothing worse than listening to tired information that is currently widely available on blogs and forums already.

I’ve read in many places that these conventions are dying out. I don’t know if it’s true but it seems like SEO has come a long way and it’s ever changing, so I imagine they have new things to talk about all the time.

SEO is a rough competitive biz. Also, if you use unethical tactics or screw something up unintentionally, you could get the site penalized or even totally banned from the search engines.

Okay, you have to click the “Enter Discount Code” link and enter in “speak100″ and you’ll get the $100 discount. Sorry about this not being clarified the first go-round… needless to say there was a little confusion.

Most of our posts about linkbuilding are actually not about getting links from SEOs, but I can see your point! I think the tactics I’ve listed here can actually be used in many different industries. Whether it’s attending a trade show or just going to a local farmers market, there are tons of ways to gain links by going to events. This post is just about one way to do so.
