On my last post about adding the Top Commentators plugin to increase comments on your blog, I would like share a great post from Problogger Darren Rowse title 13 Types of Posts that Always Get Lots of Comments. Darren mentioned one of the reasons why people love to leave comments is because there’s a tangible benefit for participating. Here’s an excerpt with further explanation:
“It’s no surprise that these types of posts got a lot of comments – for one I specifically asked for comments and there was a tangible benefit for commenting in each case (the chance to win something and the chance to promote something) – but what other types of posts get lots of comments?
I asked my followers on Twitter to share some of their most commented upon posts to see if I noticed any trends on types of posts that drew readers out of lurking mode to react with a comment.
Here are 13 types of posts that were most common in people’s responses with a few links to examples.”
What Worked For Me In The Past
One technique that worked well on another blog is setting up a giveaway. The person with the most creative comment on that post would win the prize offered. The results were outstanding and we decided to extend the giveaway because of its success. We were averaging about 35 comments per giveaway on for each blog post. The way we marketed the giveaway was through a facebook fan page, twitter, and email campaigns.
