CommentLuv and KeywordLuv
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and what better way to show love to your readers than with the CommentLuv and KeywordLuv plugin for WordPress. These plugins will enhance the commenting experience on your post and it will definitely give your readers a little nudge to leave some comments. These plugins are basically giving your readers an incentive to leave comments. Here’s a breakdown of how each plugin works:
- CommentLuv – This cool little plugin will basically crawl the commentator’s site and retrieve a link back to their most recent blog post. This will increase comments and build community around your blog. I love this plugin because it let’s me find interesting posts written by my readers and I get a chance to know them better. It’s a more personal approach then using the Top Commentator plugin, which I think you should use as well.
- KeywordLuv – KeywordLuv is another cool plugin that allows you to have your name and a keyword link to your site in the name field of your comment. This allows you to leave keyword-rich anchor text to your site for SEO backlinks. For Example, when writing a new comment in a post many times you have 3 fields to submit a comment: name, email, and website. If I want to say something like “Jack from Online Marketing Blog”:
Here’s what it will look like without KeywordLuv:
Jack from Online Marketing Blog Says:
With the KeywordLuv plugin, here’s what it will look like:
Jack from Online Marketing Blog Says:
The way to do this is to make sure you have a website url in the website field, then in the name field you would enter this format: name@keyword. So in my example I would type in Jack@Online Marketing Blog. Certain WordPress themes might not work with this plugin but there are work arounds to it, just click on the link above to redirect to the plugin site. There you have, start spreading the love!

I love keywordluv as it allows you to communicate with a real person’s name but still giving the person who took the time to write a valuable comment some kind of reward!

The plugins directory is a file in your Wordpress Folders. You can access that folder via your hosting’s cpanel. Here’s a good tutorial on how to upload plugins using the Wordpress dashboard or file upload through FTP:

Top commenters is also a great plugin to have. It rewards you for posting relevant comments on each post and blog which runs top commenters. Your links also show up in the top commenters section of the page.
It’s great for exposure as well as getting quality backlinks for your search engine rankings!
Just type in “top commenters” + niche + wordpress for relevant blogs and leave a few quality comments!

Hi Jack, I have some confusions about KeywordLuv and I’m hoping you can give a hand.
1. do I add a space before/after the @
2. does it help to leave the keyword if the blog I’m commenting on doesn’t have the plugin
3. how will I know which keywords are working
4. what’s the limit on the number of different keywords I should use
Thanks for the post. I’m voting for this at Blog Engage!

Hi Ileane, You don’t need to add a space before or after the @ sign. It won’t help if the blog doesn’t use the plugin, so I suggest you use a line bar to separate your name and keyword (Ileane | Blogging). Not sure what you mean by keywords working but you can go back and see the keyword linked and your name just as regular text once your comment has been approved. You should change the keywords you use from time to time but add no more than one keyword each time. Hope that helps!

Jack thanks for the responses. What I meant by “how do you know if it’s working” I guess what I’m trying to say is, how can I measure the effectiveness of this one specific SEO tool. I know this should be just one component of a bigger plan but, how can you track the impact of using it versus not using it at all?
If I’m on a DoFollow blog with CommentLuv, what is the extra ROI that I’ll get from KeywordLuv.
One of the reasons I’m asking is because 2 of my blogs are DoFollow with CommentLuv, but I don’t have the KeywordLuv plugin. I’m on BuddyPress and I’d like to offer a good argument to the Admin for installing it (along with a laundry list of other plugins I’ve already requested).
Make sense?

Hi Ileane, great questions you’re asking! The best way to answer them is probably tell you why I use them. First off, if I really think it would be more beneficial if your blogs are DoFollow (which they are) because keywordluv is unnecessary otherwise. The main reasons why I use it on my blog it to award me commentors with a keyword anchor text. Testing to see if you actually rank with that keyword really depends on the blogger. I can almost guarantee that you won’t be able to rank for the keyword “blogger” just using keywordluv alone. Why? because there aren’t too many dofollow blogs with this plugin to make a difference in rankings.
So why do I use it?
I use it so that my comment section doesn’t look spammy from authors using their KWs as their author name. Also, by allowing them to separate their KW from their name, it allows me to refer them as their real name when I reply to their comments. In terms of it working, I do believe that it’s adding relevant keyword anchor text backlinks to your blog. You’ll see the number of backlinks you have by going to Yahoo and using the search command linkdomain:http://www.yourblog.com.
So I guess what I’m saying is that it rewards your readers, prevent your blog from looking like a link farm in the comment section, and you’ll know your readers’ names.
I agree that this plugin is a great booster for blogs. For the point of view of the blog owner altough is not a set and forget. If people love their blogs they should really take care of them on a daily basis in order to don’t stack up on spam and crap posts. On the point of the visitor, this is a great motivator to encourage people to make a decent post on any specific subject, contributing this way to enrich the blog content. So it is a win win!

maintenance is very important, even if you have to delete somewhat spammy comments from your queue.
Backlinking facilitates in bringing traffic to your blogs . And these plugins are a great way of increasing traffic to your blogs. But as you said that one should have do- follow for getting good links then why most of the blogs we find are no- follow and how to get do follow links and also with high PR?

Rightly that these plugins enhance the commenting experience on your post and allow the users to leave some comments. Like this you have win win situation for both the sides!
I just added keywordluv plug ins to my blog. I’ve been reading same type of blog for the last two months and I’m getting more interested on how it exactly works on your own blog. I will be adding RSS feeds plug ins soon too.
Visit my blogs as well when you have time
Thanks for making your blog dofollow. One of the benefits to commenting on dofollow blogs with Comment Luv as a blogger is the dofollow link back to one of your most recent blog articles in addition to the dofollow link back to your main site.
