For those of you new to WordPress or blogging for that matter, pinging is simply telling the blog directories, etc. that a new post has been submitted on your blog. This helps expose your content to users on these sights and will potentially ping them back to your site! Here’s another great explanation from a post titled How To Set Up The WordPress Piging Service: WordPress Tip#3:
“Pinging allows you to tell blog directories that you have published a new article on your blog. WordPress is set up to automatically ping Pingomatic. However, you can add other blog directories so that they are automatically pinged every time you publish new content. I like to ping Technorati, but have added several other services. In fact, I just updated my list to include all of those recommended by Pat in you post.”
Now that you have some understand of the ping list, Visit WebTrafficRoi to view the 90 Must Have “WordPress Ping List”. Here are a few from the list, but please visit the original post for the full list:

your blog came to my attention by word-of-mouth, and I was skeptical at first. So I visit your blog… And i think that this is really a nice blog! I really liked your blog!
Thanks for the list Jack, I used it on my site and hoping to get good results. I recommend using a ping limiting plugin though, to avoid getting banned for pinging too much. One like cbnet-ping-optimizer or similar would work. Good luck!
