Although it’s great to read success stories from bloggers all over the internet, I feel that you’ll learn a lot more from the mistakes you make and how you over came them. Many bloggers don’t realize that making mistakes and even failing some of your goals is all part of the game.
So my idea here to show you that you’re not the only person with these type of issues. I’ve contacted 8 bloggers that I frequent on a regular basis or have shown love for my blog and I asked them one simple question:
“What was your biggest failure or mistake as a blogger and what did you learn from it?”
In no apparent order, their responses were:

RobsWebTips – A blog on making the internet lifestyle a reality. Blogging & entrepreneur tips to help you escape the 9-5 and live the internet lifestyle.
“I wouldn’t say I had any failures because I consider a failure something that you give up on. However, for mistakes I would say one of my biggest
mistakes would be going in with the mentality that “Making money online was easy.” By going in with that mindset I was setting myself up for a road of
mistakes because I thought everything I was going to do was going to be easy. That wasn’t the truth. Working online and making money online takes
hard work. When you work online it is no different than running a business. In my opinion, it is harder to make money online starting off than it would be offline. When you work offline, you are usually approached with people
face to face which offers you some credibility. When you are online, people are totally unaware of who you are and you need to build your reputation and
credibility with your followers before you could even imagine to start seeing an income online.”

TechNShare – Dev’s blog focuses on topics such as Make Money Online , Blogging Tips, SEO, and WordPress.
“My biggest mistake, was when I first started blogging was when I created blog with all copied and illegal Stuff.
What i learn from it?
You have to work hard , learn a lot and most of all take action to be successful. Also you have to be persistent and be patient in the beginning.”

OneMillionBy30 -Patrick is a young entrepreneur online and blogs about his quest to millions online!
“My biggest failure blogging, so far, would be picking the wrong topics to write on. I have had a few blogs in my day, and many of them didn’t last longer than a month. Each of them failed because I chose a niche that I was not truly interested in, mostly because I was was looking for a profit. I have had blogs ranging from mesothelioma to green energy, and the only ones that I keep up today are the blogs that I would continue to write about even if didn’t make one cent from them. So in the end, it really matter what you are passionate about, worry about making money from it later.”

Famous Bloggers -Hesham’s blog combines a powerful group of bloggers to show you how to blog.
“I haven’t fail on blogging yet, but of course… I have done lots of mistakes in my blogging journey, one mistake that I really want to solve it is to filter guest bloggers on our FamousBloggers.net blog, as I am accepting almost all guest posts I receive which sometimes doesn’t meet our readers expectations, so I need to be more picky in the future.”

WebTrafficRoi – ZK is a successful blogger in web marketing, affiliate marketing, SEO, PPC, etc.
“I wasted too much time procrastinating about starting a blog, my advice to bloggers – Just start it, don’t waste too much time thinking.”

Finding The Money – John knows what it takes to become a blogger and his blog explains his journey with blogging, writing and making money online.
“My biggest failure as a blogger was to stop blogging, and the sure-fire way to avoid that mistake is to *keep blogging*. It’s what winners do.
Here’s why.
I started blogging in 2006 and stopped about a year later (as Teddy KGB from Rounders would say: “Baaad judgement!”) In that time, I built up all the
foundations of a good blog: content, community, relationships, backlinks, etc.. Almost any post I wrote was guaranteed good comments and traffic. So why did I stop blogging?
Because I’m a slacker. Because I’m Gen-X. Because I’m a Seattle musician (you know, angsty and whimsical — on our good days.) Because I ran out of things to say. Bullshit reasons aside, though? It’s because my blogging story is a typical one. Happens all the time, for well-known reasons. So, I proceeded to slack for a few years, and I noticed something strange.
What slacking taught me.
You know how they say “if you build it they will come” is a myth? They’re full of it. It’s a fact. While I was slacking, traffic kept coming — reliably — the whole time, for years. The fact is, if you write content that people keep liking, search engines will keep sending them
there; they don’t care if you split the joint.I learned something else, too: I shouldn’t have stopped blogging because once you’ve built that foundation, things only get better
— *if* you keep going. The rest of the story.
Fortunately, the blogosphere is forgiving, and I’m blogging now with better results than I ever saw back in 2007. But the question remains: where would I be now if I hadn’t stopped blogging?
Don’t make that mistake.* Keep blogging*. It’s what winners do.”

Blondish – Nile passion extrudes from her blog, covering topics like social media, web design, marketing, blogging, etc.
“My biggest mistake was going on hiatus with my site for about half a year back in 2008. It really hurt my site a lot. However, I was going through a difficult divorce, so that had been a reason. At the time my site had some of my personal life on it, so I ended up re-focusing the site back to what I wanted it to be – myself as a professional who blogs, social networks and helps others with their websites. I am still goign through this change with the site, but it has progressed a lot since I got back into gear. This is something that happens to a lot of “old school” bloggers who have been blogging for more than 5 or something 10 years.
Blondish.net – Helping You Rock Out Your Site Like A Rockstar!”

We Build Your Blog - Andrew is a successful blogger who shows people how to create a blog and make a blog income.
“We are bombarded and sick to death of people telling us to blog about something you are passionate about.
Well, a couple of years ago I didn’t listen to that advice and started a couple of blogs in niches I knew very little about and was certainly not passionate about.
I did my research and found the niches made a good income on-line. I did my keyword research, I purchased some great domain names, set up WordPress and installed all the ‘must-have’ plugins.
I also found a number of affiliate products to start promoting.
All the ‘home-work’ and research was complete.
Then I had to start blogging. The first few blog posts were easy to write. A little bit of research and a bit of writing. Done! No problems.
I hadn’t invested a lot of money – just a domain name and some hosting. Say, $100. That’s a good point about a blogging business – the actual expense is very small.
But as the weeks went on and on, the writing became harder. It was taking me hours to create blog posts on the niche subjects. The frequency of publishing blog posts reduced. The thought of writing another blog post in a niche I was not passionate about really got to me.
The niche blogs were not making any income.
I was working longer hours to keep my main blog sites going and these new niche ones. My main blogs were suffering as I was not publishing blog posts as often as I wanted and the visitor numbers were reducing.
I decided it was too much and I stopped the niche sites. They are still live but I don’t add any blog posts to them anymore. One day I could sell the domain names, I suppose.
Is this my biggest failure?
I don’t know really. There have been quite a few as blogging is such a learning curve but it is certainly the one that sticks out in my mind.
What did I learn from the failure?
Blog about subjects you are passionate and know about. When you find that subject, blogging isn’t work…it’s a hobby.”
What’s Your Take?
This interview was a great learning experience for me as a blogger, and I hoped you learned something from them as well. What were some of your mistakes that you’ve experienced as a blogger and what actions did you take to overcome them? Would love to hear your thoughts below in the comment section,
I also wanted to thank all the bloggers who accepted my invitation for review, there were some who haven’t responded yet, so expect a few more updates to this post. Appreciate you time!

God, what was I thinking. I should have done one of those “Here’s my biggest mistake, but it wasn’t really a mistake, because it somehow shows how badass I am” confessionals. You know, like when a job interviewer asks for your greatest weakness and you say, “My greatest weakness is that I’m too dedicated, and work too many hours without caring if I get paid for it.”

John – Your answer was needed to be read by many bloggers online. Many of them have that “set it and forget it” mentality of blogging and they need a reality jolt.
Start early, update often, and write with passion was what I learned from your experience! Thanks
I kid — it’s all part of the ride. Great to see all these fine bloggers rocking the authenticity, too. The blogosphere needs more of it.

This was way cool! It seems I wasn’t alone in picking some uninteresting niches. Also, I found it interesting that a few blogger said that quitting or taking a break was one of their biggest screw ups. I will take that to heart if I ever begin to lose interest in my blog
Thanks for including me in this Jack!

Hey! Paul

That time I was doing the work without knowledge of what is blogging…..
Just after 15days i realize that i’m doing a big mistake and on mid December09 i changed my niche ^_^ and I’m quite happy with how it’s going so far.
and thanks Jack for including me in this list. I really appreciate it. ^_^

My biggest mistake is having too many niche blogs. Although they generate money for me but I’m not satisfy because I don’t have passion on them. Now I realize why I don’t make much money. I need to concentrate on what I love to do only.

Fazreen – I’m glad you commented on this post as I’m going get deep into niche affiliate marketing and will post my journey here in the future. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us!
Cool interview from these bloggers! Sometimes when people who have been where we were share their mistakes, it can be really beneficial to us if we can learn from them as well.

That’s right, hopefully we can all learn from them, and take action to correct our own mistakes.
My biggest mistake initially when I began creating online content was keyword selection and usage. I would right say a movie review, but in the title I would not include the name of the movie or the word review. I would use clever titles that were very creative but nobody searched on

Great tip Richard! Using creative titles would work better for bloggers with a good reader base already in place, but if you’re just starting out, you’ll need to optimize your post for search engine traffic.
Thanks for commenting!
I know what you mean Richard. I think now that a blog needs to be a balance of entertaining readers and introducing a product or service, post-for-post changing and integrating.

I totally agree with you Essa. Balance is key!
After starting, stopping, ripping it apart to begin again and finally figuring out how all my interests would integrate, I now have seven blogs. Just beginning to plant the seeds, but I have them centered, organized and have endless stories to tell. All of leads from me at the center to my interests, beliefs, fun, life, and eventually links to products or services. I see a blogging empire as residual income for someone who will never want to retire becasue they love what they do. What did I do wrong? 1. Not finding my center. 2. Too many subjects on one blog. 3. Wanting perfection first.

It’s great to read other people’s stories about mistakes. Making mistakes is part of the learning curve and I wasn’t alone in picking the wrong niches.
So many people do that thinking they can make a quick buck…and as I explained in my story, it’s hard!
Thanks for the inclusion, Jack and if you do a part 2 – count me in…I’ve done loads of mistakes!
