Get More Twitter Followers With TwitterFollower and SocialOomph

TwitterFollower

TwitterFollower is a free site that allows you to easily follow other people off a list of people that claims they will follow you back.  This site is own and operated by the one and only, John Chow.  What’s great about this site is that it allows you to follow a lot of people on one screen instead of fumbling around different pages to follow and unfollow.  So the key here is to produce a mutual relationship with your Twitter followers, meaning if I follow you I’m hoping you will follow me back.  This is where the mass unfollow feature comes into play.  After a few days when you want to “clean” your following list by deleting people who are not following you back, you can perform a mass unfollow.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but you probably want to perform frequent mass unfollows because I believe if you do 1000+ submissions on Twitter, your account will be suspended for spam.  From reading other blogs, I read that Twitter counts a follow and an unfollow as 2 separate submissions.  TwitterFollower also allows you to submit your Twitter account to the list where other people can follow you, but in order to be added to the list you have to agree to follow them back.

I don’t know about you, but following everyone that follows could be a big pain in the ass right?  Well that’s where SocialOomph comes in.

SocialOomph

SocialOomph, formely named TweetLater, allows you to set up your Twitter account so that anyone who follows you gets automatically followed back for free as well.  Other features include:

  • Auto Welcome Message – You can automatically set up a welcome message to all your new followers.
  • Rotate Messages – There’s also an option to rotate your welcome messages
  • Vet Followers – Place the automation of a new follower on hold for three days so that I can manually approve or reject the action.
  • Auto Unfollow – Automatically unfollow those folks who unfollow me.

The auto unfollow is great for those just looking to build their own followers list and try to delete you so that their follow list is much smaller.

The only thing I wish TwitterFollower would have is the ability to find people on Twitter by niche.  Having the ability to find Twitter accounts with the same interest in mind would b more receptive to what you have to tweet about.

You have to be really careful when adding and removing a lot of followers at a time. I have had one of my Twitter accounts suspended for that. Luckily I got it back a couple of days later. But it definitely changed my focus from a heap of followers to a small focused group that I can build relationships with!

Yeah, you have to be very careful with that. Finding niche-related followers is much better in the long-run.

I don’t really like to use services like this. I used to care about gaining a bunch of followers then I realized that I was only interacting with a select few people, anyway. Instead, I just interact with the people that I’m actually interested in following. It’s a slower process, but I get a much more targeted group of followers and there’s no chance of getting my account suspended.

Both tools are very interesting, and you can gain a lot of followers this way, and automate some of the features of Twitter. I’m using TweetAdder for this, and I have been for a while. It’s the most amazing software for Twitter I’ve used.

On the other hand, I agree with Tom and Tamahome. You should never follow too many people or unfollow too many at a time. I have never followed or unfollowed more than 200 in a day, and never more than 70 at a time. My account has never been suspended.

But as Tamahome says, it’s about the relationship, not how many followers you have. You could have only one follower, if the person is very influential. That would be more than enough :)

I’ve heard of TweetAdder, but haven’t used it much. Will definitely look more into it. I agree with Tom and Tamahome as well. I also like to create a list of close people I’m following to my Twitter account so I can still build the relationship as well as gain a few followers more quickly. 200 in a day sounds like a reasonal number. Thanks for your input Jens!

I did not find TwitterFollower very handy at all. In fact, I really do not recommend any program that you join to follow people. It should be done organically. I have done experiments during the first half of 2009 on different following gimics and truthfully – 1, you did not get what the site promised. 2, A lot of them have been deemed fraudulent. 3, you are never guaranteed because you can always unfollow.

Although the systems really seem fun, you are probably better off searching for people that have interests similar to yours through the Twitter Search and having better luck finding quality followers.

You’re right Nile, it’s never guaranteed because you can always unfollow. Unlike many Twitter follower programs out there, this one is free. You can always take your Twitter handle off the list in TwitterFollower if it didn’t work out for you.

Thanks for sharing your results from your experiment with us. Your points should be taken when consideration any tool you use to promote your site.

I’m not yet on twitter yet but the more I read about it, the more tempted I am… at least I know of these tools that can help me get ahead in Twitterville. I love the sound of SocialOomph, it seems to come with some great options like the welcome message thing.

Hi Stacie – You should definitely considered having one in the future. It’s a great social networking tool to interact with people of the same interest. Thanks for stopping by! :)
