If you’re big enough to have a fan page on Facebook like many of the top bloggers online, you should have Google Analytics set up for that page as well. There are over 400 million users of Facebook and a great way to track the amount of traffic coming from the pages of Facebook. Installation is pretty easy, it’s a matter of adding an image tag into a customizable FBML page. FBML is just html for Facebook (FaceBook Markup Language). Here’s a great post where you can add Google Analytics for Facebook Fan Page.
This method works well for Facebook because they don’t not allow javascript on their pages, so you can’t upload the analytics script the traditional way. You can also track your clicks off your fan page wall, here’s how to do it:
- Create a new static FBML box
- Place the img tag code in the box
- Go back to edit your fan page under Application Settings
- Remove tab and add a box
- Once box is added it will be displayed in the boxes section
- Click on Edit and select “move to wall”
You can see this live on WebDigi’s Fan Page, on the lower left-hand side. You’ll see an “articles” box on the side.
