My Trackback Traffic Marketing Case Study – Part 1

I was reading my list of blogs and I saw a post from Ian Ferguson awhile back on Trackback traffic.  Starting tomorrow I decided to start my trackback marketing case study similar to Ian’s.  For those who don’t know what a trackback is, it’s the process of notifying another blog that you have referenced their post on your blog.  On WordPress, sending trackbacks is simply adding the other blog’s post url under the edit section of your post before you submit.  From my understanding, you don’t need to get a special trackback url if both blogs are under the same blogging platform.

My goal for the next two weeks is to write one trackback post each day to various niche related sites.  Since my own blog runs on a WordPress theme, I’m simply going to grab the permanent link and paste it in the “send trackbacks to:” field before publishing my post.  Going to do a little research and find out which sites accept trackbacks, etc.

What I want to get out of this case study is see the what kind of effect do trackbacks have on traffic, backlinks, etc.  I will write more details on how I found the blogs to send my trackbacks.  I’m always looking for ways to increase blog awareness, and by doing a study, I’ll know what works and see what issues I encounter along the way.
