If you haven’t noticed yet, I just recently added a poll on my sidebar, and installing it was super easy thanks to the WP-Polls plugin for WordPress. For my first poll, I’m trying to get a better sense of who my readers are and what type of information are they interested in. Here’s the same poll below, please submit your votes now!
From my tag line, you can see that I cover a decent number of topics because that’s what I know and like to blog about. But…..the problem is that I don’t know which topics my readers are more interested in reading.
Yes, there’s a method to my madness….
Here are some reasons why I added a poll on my blog:
- Reader Interaction – I want my readers to feel like they are a part of my blog, because they really are. My blog is nothing without my readers so it makes sense to give them a chance to tell me what they want so I can meet their expectations.
- Change Focus – By finding out what my readers want to read, I can redirect my focus on more topics on demand.
- Ease of Response – Polls are a lot easier and faster for readers to convey their thought than writing an email or comment. This will typically get more reader engagement for readers in a hurry.
- New Content Ideas – By switching focus on more topics for my readers, I’ll potentially find new ideas to write about that I wouldn’t have bumped into prior to having an online poll.
Online polls are a great way for your readers to evaluate your blog so that they can tell you what you need to do to adjust to their level of interest. It’s a great way to find out who your readers are, why they’re on your blog, and what they expect to read.
So go and take my first online poll on which topic do you want to read more of on my blog! Really appreciate your participation and being a part of this community!
What’s Your Take?
Are you using online polls to see what your readers want to read? What type of questions are you asking your readers? Would love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below!

Polls certainly are a great way to gauge your readers’ interests that little bit better and anything that helps you write more engaging content is a must try. I do wonder how well a poll will do so far down the page though, that is unless you write a post about it like you have done
