Should You Do-Follow or No-Follow?
So I’ve been on a tons of blog and reading their posts on giving link love to other sites on their own blog. I’m shocked to see how many highly respected blogs can stand on opposite sides of this topic. Although both have great reasons why you should and shouldn’t make your blog do-follow, I decided to spread the love.
Many people are adding no-follow to their blogs because of talks that if you don’t add no-follow to your comments, Google will dilute the strength of text links in the posts and sidebar. I would have found that post and linked it to you, but that would just scare you off and you too will no-follow.
Making my blog do-follow motivates my readers to leave comments and get the ball rolling. This actually works well for me right now since my blog needs the extra push to get things rolling because it’s still young. By adding do-follow and a few plug-ins like commentluv and keywordluv I’m getting the comments I want early until my blog get’s more established; but even so, that’s not going to mean I should remove do-follow right? Would love to hear your thoughts on this topic.

I am using do follow for the exact same reason – to get the ball rolling. It hasn’t affected my search engine rankings so I see no need of stopping it any time soon. I don’t mind sharing the love if they are adding value to my posts!

Link love is a term used in the fields of search engine optimization and blogging to describe the effect that web pages rank better when they have more and higher quality links pointing at them. Google’s PageRank algorithm was the first to measure link love and use the resulting value to rank web pages. Link love is a generic term that is analogous to PageRank.

You’re absolutely right, dofollow and keywordluv blogs(especially a mix of both) greatly encourages comments. I’m building a list right now of great sites with solid content that are dofollow and keywordluv enabled. Yours is one of them, keep up the great work!

I was just looking in to this and I’m still on in the middle of the two sides. They both have advantages and disadvantages but I think for newer blogs it’s best to do DOFOLLOW and for established blogs switch to NOFOLLOW.

Hi Alex – Agree with you. Add the no-follow to your comments, because there will still be some link love on your “top commentators” plugin, etc.
